School children run the Daily Mile with Lily Partridge.
Long distance runner Lily Partridge joined hundreds of school children from across Suffolk in their Daily Mile activities.
Lilly, who was the fastest British female in the London Marathon this year with a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 24 seconds visited Britannia primary School in Ipswich, Wells Hall primary School in Sudbury and Abbots Green primary school in Bury St Edmunds. At each school Lily met and spoke with the pupils about her running career and what inspired her to take up the sport and what it takes to succeed. She also answered questions from the children before joining them for their Daily Mile activities.
The Daily Mile is aimed at encouraging young children to take part in more physical activity, where schools allocate 15 minutes a day for young primary school age children to run or jog at their own pace outside in the fresh air once a day. Children can walk, but the main aim is to run for 15mins in which time most children will have run a mile.
The children ran the Daily Mile with Lily Partridge as a pre-event activity to the Great East Run, in which Lily competed as an elite athlete.
The Daily Mile was founded by Elaine Wyllie, who received the Points of Light award from the Prime Minister Theresa May for her inspirational volunteering. The Daily Mile is building a community with councils and schools and is working with Suffolk County Council on their “ Most Active County” campaign.
It was a real pleasure to photograph the kids having great fun with Lily and to see them all enjoying their Daily Mile runs. Lily was a true inspiration to this young generation of potential future athletes, and who knows, any one of them could be a champion in 20 years time !
