New Lord Mayor for the City of London

New Lord Mayor 2020

Back in November I had the pleasure of photographing the newly elected Lord Mayor of the City of London at the Lord Mayor’s Show.

William Russell is now the 692nd Lord Mayor of the City of London. I captured these classic shots of him leaning out of the Lord Mayor’s State Coach, enthusiastically waving his hat to the cheering crowd as he passed by St Pauls Cathedral.  Just out of interest, the Lord Mayor’s State Coach is deemed to be the oldest ceremonial vehicle in regular use in the world!

I regularly shoot at Mansion House (The official residence of the Lord Mayor,) Guildhall and many other City venues and Livery Company Halls, and it’s always exciting to catch the first glimpse of the New Mayor as the parades with through the streets of London for the first time as part of the procession for the Lord Mayor’s Show.

The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of the City of London heads up the City of London Corporation and is an international ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services sector

Tradition has it that within the boundaries of the City of London, only the Sovereign takes precedence of the Lord Mayor. During his year in office the Lord Mayor hosts diverse visiting heads of state, heads of government and other foreign dignitaries on behalf of Her Majesty and HM Government.
