The Sheriff’s Ball 2016… An evening of fine dining and dancing with a nautical twist, in celebration of Alderman the Lord Montevan’s Mayoralty.
The inaugural Sheriff’s Ball 2016 was held in the historic Guildhall in the City of London. Guest of Honour was Alderman the Lord Mounteveans The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of the City of London. The prestigious event was hosted by Sheriff’s Alderman Charles Bowman and Dr Christine Rigden in aid of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
The champagne reception was held in the Old Library at the Guildhall, followed by dinner in the Great Hall, a silent auction, dancing between courses and after dinner adresses by The Rt. Hon. the Lord Mounteveans, Sheriff and Alderman Charles Bowman and Sheriff Dr Christine Rigden.
All funds raised from the Sheriff’s Ball 2016 will benefit the essential work of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal’s two main beneficiary charities: JDRF and Sea Cadets.
JDRF is leading in the global fight to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. The organisation brings together researchers and funders from around the world to increase our understanding of this complex condition.
Sea Cadets supports young people across the UK through transformational nautical adventure and training. This can give young people the self-belief and life skills at a critical point in their lives, helping them to become leaders, seafarers innovators and community guardians in the future.
Money for the Lord Mayor’s appeal was raised by selling tickets to the event and by a silent auction. The lots for the auction were printed in the programme and all guests were provided with a state of the art Kindle bidding tablet which communicated by Wi Fi to a central control system and a number of large display screens around the venue.
Guests simply scrolled through the list of items for auction on their tablets, made a choice and placed a bid by creating a pin number and entering the amount of their bid. The handset confirmed their pledge and the large screens around the room showed all the bids as they were coming in.
