Jimmy Choo-Footwear Student of the Year Awards.
One of the biggest names in the shoe industry, Jimmy Choo OBE, the celebrated couture shoe designer presented awards to the next generation of footwear designers at the prestigious Cordwainers Footwear Student of the Year Awards.
The inaugural Cordwainers Footwear Student of the Year Awards dinner was hosted by the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers and held at the Clothworkers Hall in the City of London on May 16th 2014. The event was supported by many of the leading lights from the footwear industry and education.

The Cordwainers Footwear of the Year Awards are new and specialist awards aimed at showcasing the talents of the next generation of footwear designers. Entrants to the awards came from three leading UK Universities offering footwear design degree courses. Students from The University of Northampton, London College of Fashion and De Montfort University were invited to enter the competition and produce a design for a new shoe.
The top entrants were judged by an independent panel of industry experts comprising Katie Greenyer, Guy West and Atalanta Weller with the winners being presented with their awards by Celebrity shoe designer Jimmy Choo OBE.
Helen Kirkum from the University of Northampton took first prize with Bethany Conway from De Montfort University taking second prize and Florence Turner taking third prize. Zuzana Vitamvasova and Mawuenam Agbenu from De Montfort receiving commendations.
The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers is a City of London based Livery Company which has its roots in shoe making and fine leather work and supports footwear education and charitable activities providing scholarships and bursaries in support of footwear courses at UK Universities.
The new Cordwainers Footwear Student of the Year Awards marks the first time the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers has developed and presented a national award. John Miller, Clerk of the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers Company, said: ” We are delighted to launch this new national award for the very best footwear design students from these three great universities. We believe this will help Britain maintain its position as the world leader in the design and manufacture of footwear.”
