Former Olympian Greg Whyte OBE, trains 20 participants in the Swim London Programme.
What a pleasure it was to meet and photograph Professor Greg Whyte OBE as he coached 20 participants in the Swim London Programme in early July this year.
Greg Whyte the former Olympian turned sports scientist, who has won European bronze and World Championship silver medals also trained Davina McCall and Greg James through their grueling Sport Relief open water challenges.
Swim London 2016 offered 225 people living in communities close to the iconic London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park the opportunity to learn how to swim and take part in a unique and exciting team event during the European Aquatics Championships.
The Masterclass with Greg Whyte , which was held at the Stoke Newington West Reservoir in Green Lanes, was aimed at helping 20 of those participants to take to the open water in the Great Newham London Swim at the Royal Victoria Docks in London on July 16.
All of this group of 20 had only just learned to swim in January. Greg gave the swimmers the benefit of his experience and shared some top tips ahead of their one mile mile open swim challenge at the Great Newham London Swim.
The brief was to capture some posed shots and some action photos of Greg and the participants for use in the media, on the Great Swim Website and in their marketing materials.
The participants were all fantastic and made brilliant progress under Greg’s watchful eye and careful guidance. What was a complete surprise was the oasis that is the Stoke Newington West Reservoir. This place is simply amazing! You’d never know it was there. It’s tucked away behind the Tower Climbing Centre in Green Lanes. It offers sailing and open water swimming and other aquatic sports as well as being an event venue with excellent and quirky facilities. It is also the home of North London Sailing Association and is very much worth a look if you are looking for some adventure in the City.
