Olympic silver medallist and double world champion Keri-anne Payne gives swimming masterclass to celebrate the Great East Swim’s 10th anniversary.
Crown Pools in Ipswich hosted the event to mark the Great East Swim’s 10th anniversary. The event was attended by pupils from the Springfield Junior School, who were given a swimming masterclass and top tips by Keri-ann Payne.
Also in attendance was Elliot Gladwell (pictured below) from the Ipswich School. Elliot is twelve years old and last year in Spain he was the winner of three under 13 gold medals at the Biathle-Triathle World Championships.
Keri- anne’s top tips included… enter the Great East Swim straight away, don’t wait to start training. Enter now and this will motivate you to train. She also recommends finding a swimming coach to improve your technique if you are unsure about this and start training at your local pool. Then, as summer comes in and the event approaches, find a good wetsuit that fits you well and try swimming in it. Don’t wait until the day of the event to swim in your wetsuit for the first time. You must try out your wetsuit in open water conditions before the event, so when a nice day comes along, go to an open water swim in your area and try everything out before the big day.
The Great East Swim’s 10th Anniversary was a great opportunity to remind everyone that the Great East Swim is wonderful fundraising opportunity to help local and national charities. This year, the Great East Swim’s official charity is Macmillan Cancer Support. The local St Elizabeth Hospice will also benefit from the support of the event.
