Commonwealth Bronze medallist Jake Wightman joins runners from the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity on Ipswich Waterfront to launch the Simply Health Great East Run 2019.
Team GB’s Jake, who won Bronze in the 1500m European and Commonwealth championships last year met up with the charity runners to provide a training and motivational session to inspire and advise the rummers for the big day.
The Simply Health Great East Run 2019 returns to Ipswich on Sunday 22nd September. The half marathon run is now in its third year and will attract over 4,000 runners, many of whom will be supporting local charities.
This was a commercial photoshoot for the PR activities to launch and promote the Great East Run 2019. The 13.1 mile run follows the same route as for the last two years, starting in Russel Rd near Suffolk County Council HQ, passing central Ipswich landmarks such as the Willis building and onto the Waterfront, past Felaw Maltings and out along the Wherstead Rd passing under the Orwell Bridge. The return route sees the runners passing back under the Orwell Bridge towards the town centre for the finish in Portman Rd at Ipswich Town FC’s practice pitch.
The race is a joint venture between Ipswich Jaffa running club, Suffolk County Council and Ipswich Borough Council….with the main charitable beneficiary to be the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
The East Anglia Air Ambulance relies on public donations to keep it flying and has recently set out to become a 24/7 service by 2020 provided they can raise the additional £1m ayer to keep the service airborne. It provides an amazing service that saves lives by flying highly skilled doctors and paramedics to accidents and emergencies all over the eastern counties where access to the scene is difficult or urgent and speedy transport to the nearest hospital is vital for the patients wellbeing.
